Middletown Public Schools is set to receive more than $350,000 in new grant funding over the next two school years to support and expand after-school programs and opportunities across the District.

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grants, funded by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), allow school districts and community-based organizations to establish or expand learning centers and other services outside of regular school hours.

This funding will allow Middletown Public Schools to keep serving students after the school day ends, giving them more chances to learn, play, and make new friends throughout the school year.

Middletown Public Schools will receive $244,127 to support two of the District’s elementary schools in the 2026-2027 school year: $136,626 for Bielefield Elementary School and $107,501 for Spencer Elementary School.

The CSDE also announced 21st CCLC awards for the 2027–2028 school year, naming Beman Middle School a recipient. Beman Middle School will receive $112,257 to support after-school activities and other opportunities for middle school students.

Recipients can use these grants to support activities and programming like tutoring and academic assistance; science, technology, and other academic enrichment; mentoring; community service; music and the arts; athletics and physical activity; health and wellness; cultural programming; and family literacy, engagement, and educational opportunities.
