Beginning with the 2024-2025 school year, children must be 5 years old on or before September 1 in order to be automatically eligible for kindergarten. This is a change from the current kindergarten age requirement of needing to turn 5 years old on or before of January 1.
Here are the key points:
- Children that entered kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year must turn 5 on or before January 1, 2024.
- Children that enter kindergarten in the 2024-2025 school year must turn 5 on or before September 1, 2024.
- If a child turns 5 anywhere between September 2, 2024 to September 1, 2025, they will enter kindergarten in the 2025-2026 school year.
