Middletown Adult Education proudly celebrated its 78th graduation ceremony on the evening of May 31, 2023. The ceremony honored the remarkable achievements of 25 graduates who successfully completed the programs offered.
Middletown Adult Education (MAE) is committed to providing a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on contextualized learning, preparing students for the workforce in priority sectors as identified by the local Workforce Development Board. As part of their education, this year’s graduates earned certifications in various fields, including CNA, CPR/1st Aid/AED, Customer Service, Cybersecurity, Microsoft Office Specialist, Northstar, Patient Care Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and ServSafe. Furthermore, the MAE program includes a Citizenship Program, which resulted in three individuals achieving their US citizenship.
One of the highlights of the graduation ceremony was the recognition of three outstanding individuals who were awarded scholarships: Teagan Sweeney, Stone Dixon, and Brian Marshalek. These students have demonstrated exceptional dedication and perseverance throughout their educational journeys.
Teagan Sweeney's success story is a testament to the transformative power of Middletown Adult Education. Faced with challenges during her time at traditional high school, Teagan found renewed motivation and engagement in the adult education program. She expressed her excitement for furthering her education and expanding her knowledge, stating, "I found so many new opportunities and learned so many new skills. I don't want my education to stop here. I can't wait to further my education and learn more." Teagan will be attending Connecticut State Community College in the fall to explore a multitude of learning opportunities.
Stone Dixon, an exceptionally motivated learner, skillfully managed the demands of work and school while pursuing his GED tests. Upon successfully passing all the exams, Stone took advantage of the STEAM Train program, which provided him with invaluable training in information technology. He intends to continue his education upon completion of the program, with the goal of giving back to his community through a rewarding career.
Brian Marshalek not only earned a scholarship but also earned the honor of being the Class Speaker for the class of 2023. Brian impressed his teachers with his unwavering dedication to learning and his ability to persevere in the face of adversity. Despite the challenges he encountered, Brian successfully completed the GED tests while working at The Rushford Center. He plans to enroll in Connecticut State Community College in the fall to further his education in his chosen field.
